The sunbirds visit
Just recently, I was wondering to hear chirping at our veranda. I was at the dining table chatting with my wife after our lunch. When the chirping became more audible, I went to find out. Two sunbirds were hopping and sipping nectars from the blooming orchid flowers my wife raised. One flew inside our house to light on one of our artificial flowers. Did she mistake it for real? Then she exited away through another window. From the differences of their breast feathers, I know one was male and the other female. “Wow, we will not be surprised that they will build a nest someday”, my wife commented. We lived in the 20th storey. From what I know, sunbirds are not noted to fly at high altitude like sparrows and swallows. But, they came to pay a visit. I felt wonderful. It brought memory to what the Psalmist wrote in Ps. 84:3,” Even the sparrow has found a house and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars O Lord of hosts, my King and my God.” Yes, there is rest and security in the presence of God. But, what about others’ feelings toward us? Do they feel secure and at peace with our friendship with them? By the grace of God, may we be like flowers blooming to attract others for the Lord. |
