A Special Treat from a FriendLast Sunday evening, I and my wife were standing at the front of our church “Hey, Friend“, he muttered in broken English. I can’t understand much of what he mostly said thereafter. But in his gestures I knew he wanted to give us a lift. I strongly refused but he was so insistent. “Because you’re my friends“, he emphasized. That evening, we have had our first 45 seater ”taxi ride” back home. A special treat from a friend. This began last Christmas day when he was sent by his company to drive us and the ladies from the Safe House in an all day outing. We just showed him love. We fed him and gave him a little Christmas gift. Love begets love. Little did I realize that a tiny deed done to a “stranger” on Christmas day transformed him to a friend. An act of love may transcend any barrier, whether language or culture. This is a reminder for us as Christ’s followers in a multi-culture society like Singapore. Let’s continue to sow good deeds. Let us follow our Lord Jesus, who went about always doing good( Acts 10:38) |
