A life of CommitmentFrom the eye bags in her face, I knew she was very weary and tired. Her older looks betray her young age. “Pastor, I want to rest. I thought of going back to Philippines for good. But, what will I support for my children, she paused as she tried to hide her emotions, ” I have to stay.” This predicament is replicated in many hearts of domestic helpers here. A life of commitment. Commitment is holding on even when comfort and convenience are absent. For the world to become a better place to live today, we owe to a few committed people who stick to a cause not because it was comfortable and convenient. But, because it was right. Their degree of sacrifices manifested their commitment. Likewise, for our marriages and church ministries to have a difference, we need committed men and women who will stay through thick and thin in their corresponding responsibilities. Let’s be reminded that Jesus saw them unfit for the kingdom of God, who are holding the plough but are kept looking back ( Luke 9:62). As double minded men, they are unstable in their ways( James 1:8). An example in the O.T. is the tribe of Ephraim, though being armed and carrying bows turned back in the day of battle(Ps. 78:9). Indeed, to follow Christ is costly. Hence, it can be done only by those who are committted. |
